French Toast Recipe

Thick slices of bread, soaked in a mixture of milk and cinnamon beaten eggs, toasted in a skillet and served with butter and maple syrup.

This must be one of our favorite and most indulgent breakfast recipes.

BEST BREAD FOR FRENCH TOAST:

If you work with thick French or Italian loaf bread slices that are several days old, French toast comes out best.

They had a chance to firm up that way, which will make the slices hold better

when you dip them in the mixture of egg milk and fry them.

When you do this, thin slices of fresh bread tend to fall apart or become mushy, making French toast for lousy.

FRENCH TOAST INFORMATION

Powdered Sugar:

Many people love to sprinkle their French toast with powdered sugar! Personally, I think the maple syrup contains plenty of sugar, so I don’t mind adding more.

Orange zest and Triple Sec:

One of my favorite variations, is to add some orange zest and some Triple Sec orange liqueur to the extra zing batter.

Instructions
  1. Make the egg mixture :Whisk the eggs, milk, and cinnamon together in a medium bowl. When using, add the orange zest and/or Triple Sec. Whisk the mixture until well mixed and pour into a shallow bowl, wide enough to put a slice of the bread you're going to use.
  2. Soak bread slices in egg mixture:Place every slice of bread in the mixture of milk eggs, allowing the bread to soak in some.
  3. Fry the french toast:Melt some butter over medium high heat in a large skillet. Shake off the bread's excess egg mixture and put the slices of bread on the hot skillet. Fry the toast until browned on one side, flip over and brown on the other side.
  4. Serve hot butter, maple syrup and fresh berries if available.
